Elusive Echoes: Exploring Poetic Soundscapes

Poster Series Project

Tasked with making three coinciding posters for a live event starring three different people who all shared a similar interest. I needed to create a visually appealing poster while still having information easily readable to grab an audience’s attention.

Research

Charmaine LeeDelivers live performances that break the status quo of music. Most of her performances are improvised on the spot, depending on the energy the crowd gives. She uses various means of amplification, feedback, and microphones to distort her voice.

Jerome Ellis Also known as JJJJerome, coming from his speech impediment of stuttering. He now uses his music and performances to bring awareness to those with speech impediments.

Patti SmithHer release of “Horses” contributed to the punk movement in the 1970s. Her lyrics challenged social norms and provided a place for outcasts to feel welcomed.

Type Play

Since my three artists pushed the social norms with their music that I wanted to do something similar with my posters by bending and distorting the text.

Digital Black & White Ideations

I brought the materials from the type play and started to position them in different ways.

Digital Colored Ideations

Type, Color, & Texture Study 2

After the first rounds of ideations, I switched to a pastel color palette and ripple texture because the major theme of my event was echoes.
